Recently, Prof. Ad IJzerman (Leiden University) has won the Nauta Pharmacochemistry Award for his excellent research in the field of drug discovery and structural biology related to G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs). The GPCR family consists of hundreds of membrane-bound proteins with essential roles in a variety of functional processes involved in the immune system, various senses (such as taste, smell), behavioural and mood regulation, and autonomic nervous system transmission. The work of Prof. IJzerman has important implications for the pharmaceutical industry and our society. Prof. IJzerman will receive this prestigious prize during the International Symposium on Medicinal Chemistry in Basel, Switzerland in September 2021.
